Ondo State House of Assembly on Monday said four members who were suspended over a political crisis have been reinstated.

Tomide Akinribido, Iroju Ogundeji, Wale Williams and Favour Tomomewo were announced reinstated at the plenary on Monday morning. They had been suspended over allegations of gross misconduct, which they all denied and filed court processes to be reinstated.

Last month, the Ondo State High Court had set aside the indefinite suspension of Mr. Akinribido, the deputy minority leader.

Peoples Gazette had reported that the Ondo State House of Assembly turned four of its members away, preventing them from resuming their legislative duties despite a valid court order for their reinstatement.

The Akure Division of the Court of Appeal had struck out a motion for stay of execution filed against the reinstatement of the four lawmakers.

Justice Omoleye Olabisi of the Court of Appeal described the suit as frivolous and ordered that the members be allowed to resume their duties.

The lawmakers’ suspension came amidst heightened controversy between the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, over the latter’s governorship ambition. Many of the lawmakers had rejected attempts by the governor’s loyalists to impeach the deputy governor from office on the basis of their disagreement, saying it would be unconstitutional.
