AFCON 2021: Equatorial Guinea end Algeria’s 35-match unbeaten run

On Sunday, Equatorial Guinea truncated Algeria’s unbeaten run, condemning them the defending Champions to a one-nil defeat at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Equatorial Guinea ended Algeria’s historic 35-match unbeaten run in the group stage game at Douala stadium in Cameroon, leaving Algeria with just a point and at the bottom of Group E.
Esteban Obiang’s 70th-minute goal delivered Equatorial Guinea the historic win as they grabbed crucial three points to stay second with four points in Group E.
Though Algeria had 70 per cent possession and 13 shots on target, the stubborn Equatorial Guinea side contained the Algerians, with just 30 per cent possession and four shots on target.
Algeria will go into their last group stage match with a point against group leader Ivory Coast, who have 4 points.
Equatorial Guinea, second in the group with three points, will face Sierra Leone in their last group stage match scheduled for Thursday.
