Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa have said they would meet in Kyiv as a show of the EU’s support for Ukraine.

Mr Fiala, Mr Morawiecki, and Mr Jansa would be traveling to Kyiv by train, Michal Dwoczyk, an aide to Mr Moraweicki, told RFE/RL.

Mr Fiala said in a tweet that the three leaders will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal.

“The aim of the visit is to express the European Union’s unequivocal support for Ukraine and its freedom and independence,” Mr Fiala tweeted

The prime minister added that “At the same time, we will present a broad package of support for Ukraine and its citizens during the visit.”

He further stated that “The international community has also been informed of this visit by international organizations.”

The leaders visit comes amid invading Russian forces nearing the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv since Moscow’s deadly invasion on February 24.

The Polish government in a statement on Tuesday said the three prime ministers will act as envoys of the European Council, and that the meeting was organised in consultation with the Council’s president, Charles Michel, and European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen.

The three prime ministers will be accompanied by Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party.

The EU is set to announce more Russian companies, individuals, business and media elites, and several defense companies to be targeted in response to the attacks on Ukraine.
