Lagos Auditor-General: Lawmakers confirm Sanwo-Olu’s nominee

The Lagos House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed Salami Sikiru Adeniji as the state’s substantive Auditor-General as nominated by governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, announced the confirmation during plenary session following a voice vote from members.
Mr Adeniji had earlier appeared before the lawmakers for screening.
In another development, the Assembly also read for the second time, “A Bill for a Law to amend Anti-Corruption and Transparency Commission Law, 2021”.
Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions, & LASIEC, Victor Akande, said the lacuna in the extant law necessitated the amendment.
He pointed out that the amendment of the long title of the bill be changed to read “Lagos State Anti-corruption and Transparency Commission”.
He also advocated that the Secretary of the Commission be a qualified legal practitioner with no less than ten years’ experience.
Gbolahan Yishawu, representing Eti-Osa constituency II, in his contribution, commended the judiciary committee for acting responsively and responsibly.
The Committee on Judiciary is expected to present its report to the House in a week.
