House directs AGF Malami not to delete sections of amended electoral act

The Federal House of Representatives on Wednesday indicated its readiness to appeal the judgement of the Umuahia Division of the Federal High Court which asked the Attorney General of the Federation to delete Section 84 (12) from the newly passed electoral act.
During Wednesday plenary, the House also directed the AGF to hold action on the issue until all appeal processes are concluded.
Also, the House is set to report Justice Evelyn Anyadike to the National judicial Council for empowering the Attorney-General of the Federation to delete section 84(12) of the signed electoral act.
Some members of the house picked holes in the judgement and also suggested that Justice Anyadike be reported to the National Judicial Council.
Last week, a Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State had ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, to delete Section 84 (12) from the amended Electoral Act.
As contained in Section 84 (12) of the electoral act: “No political appointee at any level shall be voting delegate or be voted for at the Convention or Congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election”.
