The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced it seized no less than 1,399kg of drugs, including counterfeit $100,000 cash, last month in Kaduna.

The state commander of the NDLEA, Umar Adoro, said the agency also sealed off a shop and four houses.

Speaking with journalists, Mr Adoro provided details of the drugs seized, including 997.121kg of Indian hemp and 342.329kg of other psychotropic substances. Others were 0.027kg of cocaine, 0.036kg of heroin and 59.382kg of Tramadol.

According to the NDLEA, three sealed houses are located in the Rigacikun area, and the fourth is in the Anguwan Maigero area.

The NDLEA commander added that drug peddling, trafficking and abuse had become prevalent in the two areas. He also mentioned that 117 suspects, including two females, were arrested during the raids.

Also, he said the agency recovered two locally-made guns, seven cartridges, two pieces of ammunition and 100,000 counterfeit dollars during the March operations.

Additionally, NDLEA said it destroyed eight drug joints in the areas during the operations.

Mr Adoro reassured the public of the agency’s commitment to eradicate the use of illegal drugs in society.
