Britain’s Boris Johnson will be fined for breaking lockdown rules at Downing Street during the Coronavirus pandemic.

On Tuesday, Mr Johnson was fined for breaking lockdown rules making him the first Prime Minister to have broken a law in living memory.

The chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, and Carrie Johnson, Mr Johnson’s wife, will also be fined for breaking lockdown rules at the start of the pandemic.

In a statement, London’s Metropolitan Police said it had observed at least 50 breaches of the law as part of its inquiry into the “partygate” scandal.

“As of Tuesday, 12 April 2022 we have made over 50 referrals for fixed penalty notices (FPN) to the ACRO Criminal Records Office for breaches of Covid-19 regulations who, following the referral, issue the FPNs to the individual,” the police said

Downing Street, which acts as the prime minister’s personal office and his official residence, said Messrs Johnson and Sunak would be issued the fines.

“The Prime Minister (Boris Johnson) and the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Rishi Sunak) have today received notification that the Metropolitan Police intend to issue them with fixed penalty notices,” Downing Street said to the New York Times.

Mr Johnson had denied the accusations, despite being accused of being at several events in his office and other government buildings being investigated by the police.
