Lagos deputy governor’s brother dies of COVID-19
The Lagos deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat has lost his brother, Vanguard reported on Wednesday. The death is said to have been caused by COVID-19.
Dr. Haroun Hamzat, a medical doctor, died on Tuesday night, sources say.
Until his unfortunate demise, the younger Hamzat,37, was a medical officer at a Primary Healthcare Centre in a Lagos suburb, according to Upshot Reports.
The Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, while announcing his death described it as “sunset at dawn.”
“We commiserate with his immediate family, friends, associates, colleagues and staff of Lagos State PHC Board and indeed the medical fraternity of Lagos State.
“We pray against such premature deaths in our fold.
“May the Almighty God grant his family and all of us, the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss, Amen.
“Adieu our Hippocratic Brother, Dr. Haroun Hamzat may your gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the association’s statement read in part.
It is unclear if the deputy governor himself had earlier contracted the virus, but the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, recently spent some time under treatment after he was confirmed positive.
Nigeria on Tuesday recorded 1,354 new cases of coronavirus, the highest number recorded ever, with Lagos topping the list with 712 cases, according to data available on NCDC website.
