The Federal Road Safety Corps in Enugu says it recorded over 40 per cent reduction in road crashes and fatalities in its Special Easter Operation in the state.

Sector Commander for FRSC in the state, Joseph Toby, said in Enugu on Friday that the Command had a “very successful and hitch-free Easter operation.”

Recall that the FRSC deployed 757 personnel, 12 patrol vehicles, three motorcycles, a tow truck and one equipped ambulance for the Easter operation.

The operation, code-named “Easter Special Patrol Operation”, lasted for seven days, from April 13 to April 20.

Mr Toby said that the command’s personnel worked hard to achieve the 40 per cent reduction in crashes and fatalities in 2022, compared to the same period (or Easter operation) in 2021.

“More crash victims were rescued without fatalities as a result of prompt emergency rescue services by FRSC personnel, especially with our well-equipped ambulance and first aid unit.

“Lots of obstructions were promptly cleared as soon as they occurred by our gallant personnel.

“Traffic flash points across the state were adequately manned by FRSC personnel, ensuring free and smooth flow of traffic on major road corridors throughout the one week operation,” he said.

The commander appreciated the synergy with the police, army, air force, SSS, civil defence, state transport ministry, and also transport unions “that made the operation seamless and a huge success.”
