Kiran Kaur, the 53-year-old mother of Henry Nowak’s killer, has been jailed for three years for removing a knife from the scene of Mr Nowak’s murder in Southampton.

The 53-year-old was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on Friday after being found guilty of assisting her son, Vickrum Digwa, by removing and hiding the murder weapon at her home. The knife was used to kill Mr Nowak, an 18-year-old university student.

Judge William Mousley, who presided over the case, said the mother, as a responsible parent, should have challenged her son and allowed further investigations to proceed.

The murder occurred on 3 December 2025 in Southampton, England, where Henry Nowak, a first-year student at the University of Southampton, was stabbed five times with a 21-centimetre ceremonial Sikh knife. Investigators later found more than 20 other weapons at the scene.

Mr Digwa lied to Hampshire police officers, claiming that he had been racially attacked.

Bodycam footage released by the police showed officers handcuffing the teenager despite his stab wounds and he later died at the scene.

Mr Digwa was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years for Mr Nowak’s murder.

The two Hampshire police officers are under investigation for potential gross misconduct over their decision to handcuff Mr Nowak.

The incident sparked protests across Southampton over the death of the young student.

Mr Digwa is seeking permission to appeal against his conviction and sentence, while a full inquest into Henry Nowak’s death will be held next year in Winchester.
