Sanwo-Olu reopens all Chrisland School branches

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the reopening of Chrisland Schools in Lagos five days after its closure over viral sex tapes of some students during a school trip to Dubai.
The state government had shut down the school on April 18 to investigate the alleged sexual violation during the World School Games.
Education commissioner Folasade Adefisayo announced Saturday the reopening of all seven branches in the state effective Monday, April 22.
“The directive follows a review of the ongoing administrative investigation into the incident. Besides, it is to ensure that students are not denied access to learning when the new term begins on Monday 25th April, 2022,” the statement said. “The State Government shut the schools for safety of students and the staff and to ensure unhindered investigation of the incident.”
The commissioner said the ministry of education and other agencies in the state would collaborate with the parent teachers’ association (PTA) to schedule psychosocial support for the five pupils.
The commissioner added that the ministry would assess the school’s procedure on international trips and excursions to prevent future occurrence of such incidents.
“The Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies of the State, in conjunction with the school’s Parent Teachers Association, will be working on a scheduled psychosocial support for the students.
“An extensive assessment of the school’s procedure, especially on external trips and excursions, is being made to identify safety gaps and prevent such incidents.
“Besides, the Ministry will launch the reviewed guidelines/protocols governing private and public schools across the state within the next one month,” the statement said.
Five pupils of Chrisland School were involved in sexual misconduct according to the school and videos posted online.
The incident happened while the pupils of Chrisland joined their pairs from different parts of the world on a school trip to Dubai to participate in the World School Games between March 10-13.
However, the mother of one of the pupils involved in the sexual misconduct alleged that her daughter was raped during the school trip. She blamed the school for not monitoring the students during the trip.
Following the public outburst, the state government announced the school’s closure and warned against the circulation of the leaked sex tape on social media.
However, the management of Chrisland Schools absolved itself from any blame, saying 76 students embarked on the international trip and 71 out of the students adhered to the school standards and abided with the code of conduct.
The school suspended the five pupils involved in the sexual misconduct and sex tape that emerged on the Internet.
