Gombe gov suspends water board boss for negligence

Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has approved the suspension of the state’s Water Board General Manager, Magaji Abubakar, with immediate effect.
Ismaila Misili, a media aide to the governor, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Gombe.
According to him, the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Njodi, announced the suspension following alleged negligence to duty by the general manager.
The government said the dereliction of duty had led to rampant water pipe leakages, as witnessed by the governor during his inspection visits to some project sites in the state capital on Tuesday.
He said the general manager had been directed to hand over affairs of the office to the most senior COREN registered engineer in the agency to oversee its affairs until further notice.
The governor recently approved the N11.491 billion contract for the rehabilitation, upgrade and expansion of the Gombe regional water scheme.
