Chelsea, Manchester United agree £50 million deal for Andrey Santos

Manchester United have reached an agreement on a fee of £50 million with Chelsea for the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos.
The Brazilian leaves Chelsea to join the Red Devils on a total package of £48 million, plus an additional £2 million in performance-related add-ons, while the Blues retain a 10 per cent sell-on clause.
Santos will undergo a medical to finalise his move to Old Trafford.
The move by Manchester United comes as an expected rebuild of the club’s midfield after it missed out on key targets, which include Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and Elliot Anderson.
United opened their transfer window with the signing of Atalanta’s Ederson, with the club having several links to top midfield candidates.
Among the names on the club’s shortlist are Aurelien Tchouameni, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Felix Nmecha, Alex Scott, and Carlos Baleba.
The 22-year-old midfielder joined the Blues from Vasco da Gama, based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after making 40 league appearances and scoring nine league goals.
Chelsea signed Santos in 2023 for a fee of about £13 million, and he was shortly loaned back to Vasco da Gama to complete the Brazilian season.
After the season, he joined Nottingham Forest in another short loan spell, making only two appearances due to the lack of minutes before returning to Chelsea.
Santos later moved to Ligue 1 on loan, joining RC Strasbourg, where he established himself as one of the club’s key players, netting 10 goals and four assists. The move also earned him his first Brazilian call-up.
He returned to England for the 2025/2026 campaign, making 43 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and five assists.
The young midfielder will add his versatility to United’s midfield, with his ability to comfortably play in the No. 6 and No. 8 positions.
