AATO to harmonise frameworks on training across Africa
The African Aviation Training Organisation (AATO) says it will harmonise training frameworks across Africa to facilitate the movement of aviation professionals across borders.
AATO technical coordinator Yakubu Ibrahim said this on Friday in Abuja during his remarks at the 29th AATO council meeting symposium and the 10th-anniversary celebration.
According to him, such an effort to harmonise the framework will foster a more integrated and efficient aviation community on the continent.
Mr Ibrahim reiterated that AATO aimed to harmonise curricula and syllabi across African countries to streamline certification processes.
He added that the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) had been supporting AATO to enhance quality aviation training to harmonise aviation training in the continent.
“Investments in modernising training facilities, upgrading aviation curricula, and fostering a culture of safety and excellence will tackle present challenges and position Africa as a formidable player in the global aviation pitch.
“By embracing innovation and digital learning platforms, the continent can bridge the technology gap and offer state-of-the-art training programmes that align with global standards. Also, strategic partnerships and collaborations with regional and international learning institutions, development partners and industry leaders can infuse the much–needed resources, expertise and technology into the African aviation training landscape,” said Mr Ibrahim.
Also speaking, ICAO regional director of Eastern and Southern Africa, Lucy Mbugua, said Africa faced unique challenges in establishing adequate and sustainable aviation training infrastructure.
According to her, insufficient funding, outdated facilities, and a scarcity of qualified instructors pose formidable challenges.
Ms Mbugua said, “Limited access to cutting-edge technology, training facilities and equipment further compounds the challenge, hindering the development of a skilled workforce capable of navigating the complexities of modern aviation.”
