Abe’s Assassination: Japan investigates Unification Church

Following the death of ex-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the church was revealed to have close ties with members of the country’s ruling party.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has ordered an investigation of Japan’s Unification church after telling the country’s parliament that he wanted to “resolve issues related to the church.”

Following the death of ex-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the church was revealed to have close ties with members of the country’s ruling party. 

Mr Kishida disclosed on Monday that the minister for education and culture, Keiko Nagaoka, will oversee the investigation under the Religious Corporations Act. 

Mr Abe was shot dead during a rally in July. 

The prime suspect in his murder told the police that his family had gone bankrupt because of donations to the church.
