Abia: Gov Otti initiates measures to harmonise data systems for improved governance

Governor Alex Otti says his administration remains committed to building a modern, efficient and data-driven governance structure.
Mr Otti said this on Thursday in Umuahia, while declaring open the Abia Data and Identity for Governance Workshop, organised for civil servants and political office holders.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve “to institutionalise credible data management and a reliable identity system across government”. He said that governance in the 21st Century “must be anchored on accurate data and a harmonised identity framework to ensure effective planning and seamless service delivery.
“Without credible data, planning becomes guesswork, and without a coordinated identity system, service delivery remains fragmented,” he said.
He described the workshop’s theme as a transformational blueprint aimed at integrating data systems across ministries, departments and agencies.
Mr Otti said the initiative would eliminate duplication, enhance transparency, improve policy formulation and promote accountability in public service.
He said that a unified data architecture would enable the state to track performance, allocate resources efficiently, boost internally generated revenue and strengthen social protection programmes.
According to him, the initiative aligns with the development philosophy of his administration, which highlights structured governance and measurable outcomes. He said that practical and solution-driven outcomes were expected from the workshop by focusing on data integration challenges, capacity gaps and digital identification requirements.
