Abia police rescue three trafficked children, arrest suspects

The Abia State police command has arrested two women, Chinasa Ukachukwu and Adaoma Sunday, over their alleged involvement in child trafficking.
Command spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, in a statement on Monday, said Mrs Ukachukwu went to Aba with her four children but returned two days later with only one of them. The children were later rescued after being trafficked to Aba, Lagos, and Anambra.
Mrs Chinaka said, “On 4/10/2024, the Command received a report that the widow of late Mr Ukachukwu Ojimadu, Mrs Chinasa Ukachukwu, female, 31 years, left home with her four children under the guise of attending a child dedication in Aba. She returned two days later with only one of her children and could not give an account of the remaining three children.
“She was apprehended, and leveraging on actionable intelligence, detectives of the Command arrested another suspect, Adaoma Sunday, female, 30 years, and rescued the three children in Aba, Lagos, and Anambra, respectively. The children have been reunited with their families, and the suspects have been charged to court.”
The police spokesperson said the update was in reference to the command’s statement of October 10, 2025, regarding the rescue of eight infants and ten stolen children, as well as the subsequent arrest of suspects for conspiracy and child stealing.
She disclosed that, “Mr Akinrinola Aliya Ayomide from Lagos State has identified one of the children as Akinrinola Aliyat Ayomide, with all necessary documents, and has been reunited with his daughter. Likewise, Mr Oladapo Olanipekun from Lagos has identified little Master Olanipekun Akoede Daniel, with all necessary lawful documents, and has been reunited with his family.”
Urging anyone whose child is missing to report to the gender section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) or contact the OC Gender through 08033173846, the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, advised residents to ensure the security of their wards and children.
