Abike Dabiri attacks Tinubu, Osinbajo for excluding women from APC South-West summit
Former lawmaker and chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commision, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has expressed displeasure about the exclusion of women from the South-West elders summit of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Hmmm! Meeting of APC South-West elders/leaders. Not one single woman! From the whole of the South-West; there is God ooo..,” Ms Dabiri-Erewa tweeted.
Bisi Akande, the APC’s founding chairman, and Olusegun Osoba, former governor of Ogun State, co-hosted a ‘meeting of elders’ on Friday, with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Lagos governor Bola Tinubu, and other APC leaders in attendance.
The meeting excluded women leaders of the party in the six South-West states, drawing wide criticism from Nigerians on inclusion of women in politics.
The exclusion of women in the leaders meeting exemplifies the APC-led presidency’s systemic disregard for women in politics.
The presidency has continued to disregard the National Gender Policy which provides that thirty-five per cent of political appointments should be set aside for women.
Only seven out of Nigeria’s thirty-six ministers are female and only four of the thirty-seven members of the Federal Character Commission are women.
