Abiya appointed acting NNPP Kano chair amid leadership shake-up

Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya has emerged as the acting state chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano, following the sacking of the former chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa.
This is contained in a statement by Governor Abba Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, on Tuesday.
Mr Bature said the NNPP State Executive Committee endorsed Mr Abiya’s appointment at an emergency meeting at the party’s secretariat in Kano.
According to him, Yusuf Mukhtar, the party’s assistant legal adviser, announced the decision, citing the NNPP constitution.
He said the development followed the submission of a formal resolution on Mr Dungurawa’s sacking by the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee, which accused him of anti-party activities.
Mr Abiya pledged the party’s commitment to justice, loyalty to national leader Rabiu Kwankwaso, and support for Mr Yusuf.
Mr Dungurawa had, however, insisted that he remained the bona fide chairman of the party in the state, describing his alleged expulsion as null, void, and of no effect.
