About 2,000 suspected murderers, robbers, rapists, others nabbed in Ebonyi: Police

The police command in Ebonyi says it arrested 1,733 suspects in connection with 913 offences in 2025.
This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday. The suspects comprised 1,624 males and 109 females.
Eight hundred and twenty-two male and 22 female suspects, allegedly involved in 462 cases, were thoroughly investigated and charged in court.
“Some major offences within the year under review include murder, armed robbery, rape, theft, and unlawful possession of firearms, among others.
“In terms of operational successes, the command recovered 35 locally fabricated single and double-barrelled pistols and long guns, seven pump-action rifles, six AK-47 assault rifles, and 149 rounds of assorted ammunition,” the police said.
The command revealed that nine kidnapped victims were rescued, while six stolen vehicles were also recovered, including a Sino truck that was being vandalised for sale as scrap.
“The (police) commissioner has pledged that in 2026, the command will consolidate on these achievements by deepening community policing initiatives.
“He also promised to strengthen synergy with sister agencies, enhance officers’ capacity through in-house training, and ensure professionalism and civility in interactions with the public,” said the statement.
