The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, was temporarily shut down on Wednesday following an Allied Nigeria aircraft skidding off runway.

A statement by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, noted that a cargo plane belonging to Allied Air Cargo skidded off the runway on Wednesday.


“At 10:05am on December 11, 2024, an Allied Air Carge aircraft with registration number SN-JRT skidded off Runway 22 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja with five (5) souls on board with no reported injury,” the statement read.

Checks by Peoples Gazette showed that the aircraft, a Boeing B737-400, made its first flight over 31 years ago. 

According to Flightera.net, an aviation tracker and flight data website, The Boeing 737 Classic are narrow-body airliners produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, the second generation of the original Boeing 737-100/-200. Development began in 1979 and the first variant, the 737-300, first flew in February 1984 and entered service in December of that year. The stretched 737-400 first flew in February 1988 and entered service later that year The shortest variant, the 737-500, first flew in June 1989 and entered service in 1990.
