Abuja businessman divorces wife over lack of love after 24 years
The Kubwa Upper Area Court in Abuja has dissolved a 24-year-old marriage between a businessman, Yakubu Yahaya and his wife, Amina Yusuf, over a lack of love.
The judge, Mohammed Wakili, dissolved the marriage according to Islamic law, following Mr Yahaya’s prayer for confirmation of divorce to his wife.
Mr Wakili ordered Ms Yusuf to observe ‘Iddah,’ a three-month waiting period before contracting another marriage.
The petitioner had told the court he married the respondent under Islamic law on October 1, 2000, and was blessed with four children. He said the respondent gradually changed her character toward him and threatened his life.
Mr Yahaya said he could no longer live with the respondent’s character, adding that there was no more love between them.
“I have pronounced divorce to her and urge the honourable court to confirm my divorce to her and dissolve the marriage,” he prayed the court.
