Abuja driver convicted for ramming into FRSC marshal, crushing patrol vehicle

The Federal Road Safety Corps has secured the conviction of a 26-year-old traffic offender, Atada Victor, for dangerous driving, assaulting an FRSC marshal and other traffic-related offences.
The conviction was announced in a statement on Wednesday.
The agency said that the conviction marked another step in its commitment to protecting road traffic operatives and ensuring that violence against law enforcement officers do not go unpunished.
The assault occurred at about 8:30 a.m. during a routine traffic enforcement operation in Abuja
The offender, driving a vehicle with registration number RBC 398 DQ, was flagged down by an FRSC patrol team for a traffic violation.
Rather than complying, the driver accelerated, knocked down the arresting marshal and rammed into the FRSC’s patrol vehicle in an attempt to evade arrest.
“The violent action left the marshal with serious injuries to the head, eye and other parts of the body, and he was immediately evacuated to the National Hospital, Abuja.
“The marshal is currently receiving treatment and remains under medical observation, while the FRSC patrol vehicle was extensively damaged,” said the statement.
The corps marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the conviction as a clear demonstration that attacks on FRSC officers and attempts to obstruct lawful enforcement operations would attract appropriate legal consequences.
Mr Mohammed noted that road traffic laws existed to safeguard all road users, urging motorists to always cooperate with the FRSC by obeying traffic regulations and complying with lawful directives during patrol and enforcement operations.
