A 41-year-old man, Richard Dokotri, was arraigned in a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a laptop.

The prosecuting counsel, Festus Ajayi, told the court that the complainant, Frederick Odika, reported the matter at Garki Police Station on June 26.

Mr Ajayi alleged that the defendant broke the glass of the defendant’s Toyota Hilux car parked at Tee S Cee garden, Area 3 Garki, Abuja on the said date.

The prosecution counsel added that the defendant stole the complainant’s HP laptop and charger from the car valued at N1.5 million.

He stated that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 346 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Abubakar Sadiq, granted the defendant N2.5 million bail with one surety who must provide means of identification and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Mr Sadiq ordered that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means of livelihood and address verified by the court’s registrar.

He adjourned the matter until October19 for hearing.
