Abuja: PDP eyes landslide victory in FCT council elections

The Peoples Democratic Party in the Federal Capital Territory says it is poised for victory in the forthcoming area council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.
The PDP spokeswoman in Abuja, Josephine Itoyah-Splendor, in a statement on Sunday, said the party’s internal challenges would not affect its performance in the elections.
According to Ms Itoyah-Splendor, the party’s candidates are men and women of integrity and commitment approved by the then-Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee.
She added that their legitimacy had been further sealed with the official stamp of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“Let it be known far and wide: the PDP is solidly united. We are not merely participating in these elections. We are marching forward with the clear intention to win, and to win handsomely.
“The people of the FCT, enlightened and discerning, recognise that the PDP has consistently delivered progress, stability, and development. They know that our vision is not built on empty promises but on a track record of service and achievement,” she said.
She also dismissed the malicious propaganda seeking to cast doubt on the eligibility of PDP candidates.
Ms Itoyah-Splendor said it was no surprise that the opponents, rattled by the party’s strength and readiness, have resorted to misinformation.
“The truth is clear. Every document relating to our candidates has been properly signed and validated by the Damagun-led executive. The validity of our candidates is unquestionable and remains untouched by any internal challenges the party may have faced,” she said.
Ms Itoyah-Splendor maintained that there were no factions, no divisions, no distractions within the PDP regarding the election, adding that the national leadership of the PDP stands firmly behind the Abuja chapter of the party.
She called on PDP supporters across the FCT to remain steadfast and prepare to cast their votes with pride and conviction. She urged Abuja residents to vote out non-performing parties and vote for the PDP.
“Vote for the PDP, the only party that delivers on its promises, the only party that has consistently championed the cause of the people,” she said.
Ms Itoyah-Splendor added that the “PDP is alive,” united, and ready, adding that victory is not just possible; it is inevitable.
“PDP remains the torchbearer of Nigeria’s democracy. PDP is your party. PDP is the party of progress. PDP is the party that delivers,” Ms Itoyah-Splendor said.
