The police on Thursday arraigned a security guard, Isiah Ohida, at a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing his employer’s building blocks worth N987,500.

The police charged Ohida, 40, of Life Camp, Abuja, with criminal breach of trust, cheating and theft by servant, but he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Usman Johnson of FHA Lugbe Airport Road, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on August 5.

Ms Nwachukwu alleged that Mr Johnson trusted the defendant and employed him as a security guard at his block industry to protect and secure his property.

She alleged that the defendant dishonestly made away with 465 pieces of blocks and 950 pieces of pallet wood for moulding blocks, valued at N987,500.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant regularly siphoned petrol from the generator at the block industry, with the value yet to be determined.

She added that during police investigation, the defendant denied the allegations, while efforts to recover the allegedly stolen items proved abortive.

The prosecutor informed the court that the offences contravened Sections 312, 322 and 289 of the Penal Code.

The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Mr Jobbo ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, submit passport photographs to the court registry and provide reliable means of identification.

He adjourned the matter until October 5 for hearing.
