The governorship candidate of the Action Alliance in Saturday’s election in Anambra State, Jeff Nweke, has congratulated Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance on his victory.

Mr Nweke conveyed his felicitations to Mr Soludo during his post-election news conference in Awka on Monday.

He described the election as “keenly contested and one of the most efficient and freest in the history of Anambra.”

According to him, the election went well.

He lauded the smooth conduct of the exercise, saying that “Anambra people have spoken and so it is.”

Mr Nweke also commended Mr Soludo for extending a hand of fellowship to other contestants and promised to work with him for better Anambra.

He urged the other candidates in the election to accept the verdict of the masses and drop the idea of litigation.

The AA governorship candidate said he heard the report about vote buying in some areas but did not witness it in his polling unit.

He expressed regret that the incident led to the unfortunate killing of a councillor in Orumba South Local Government Area.

Mr Nweke stated, “I appreciate the people of Anambra for coming out en masse to express their electoral choices. This election exposed the fact that we have come of age because there was no intimidation, molestation or suppression. I, Ozo Jeff Nweke, accept the outcome of this election and I have sent my congratulatory message to the winner, Governor Chukwuma Soludo. Our people have shown that they want him to continue, so I call on him to run an inclusive government which, in his speech, he has expressed readiness to do.’’

He called on Mr Soludo to use his second term to tackle the challenges of youth unemployment and poverty to address insecurity.

He said, “The bedrock of our problem in Anambra is hunger, which is as a result of unemployment. So, I call on the governor to create jobs and tackle poverty and other problems will be taken care of.”
