Actor Kenneth Okonkwo joins Labour Party after dumping APC

Veteran Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo has officially joined the Labour Party, after dumping the All Progressives congress (APC) over the presidential Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Mr Okonkwo announced his defection via his Instagram page on Wednesday. He shared pictures of himself entering the party’s office in Abuja
“It was an honour and a privilege to be welcomed into the Labour Party on the 23rd of August, 2022, at the Supreme God House, Apo, Abuja,” the actor captioned the post.
He said “This will enable me assist in my own humble way to the enthronement of His Excellency, Peter Obi, as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2023 for the good governance of our dear country which is so blessed by God but has been so battered by bad leaders.”
Mr Okonkwo also announced that he has been made the national spokesman for “Dynamics Ambassadors for Peter Obi (DAPO)”, a support group for the party’s presidential candidate.
In July, the actor renounced his membership of the APC, citing the party’s fielding of a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket as an anathema.
He tendered his resignation through the chairman of Nkpunano Ward, Nsukka, Enugu State, on July 12.
“If Muslims could voluntarily vote for southern presidents, it is then a fallacy to insinuate that they cannot accept a northern Christian vice president.
“This will permanently destroy the political viability of northern Christians in Nigeria if allowed to stand,” he had said.
