The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) says it recorded no fewer than 108 human rights violations between January and July in Adamawa.

NHRC coordinator in the state, Grace Mamza, disclosed this in an interview in Yola on Wednesday.

Ms Mamza said most cases were abandonment of responsibilities by husbands, abuse of rights to dignity, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and child abuse, among others.

She, however, stated that over 50 per cent of the cases had been resolved.

“Those cases that were not within our mandate, we refer them to appropriate authorities like the police, Civil Defence, Public Complaints Commission, as well as Ministries of Justice and Women Affairs,” she said.

Ms Mamza called on the general public to always respect constituted authority and the rights of every individual.

“The commission is here to help anyone whose right is being violated, not minding any differences. We are here to protect everybody.

“We should, therefore, have respect for human rights. If we do so, there will be no abuse,” the NHRC coordinator said.
