The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Adamawa, on Wednesday, welcomed new members, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening party structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

At a press conference in Yola, SDP state publicity secretary, Ibrahim Karlahi, said the surge in new members reflects growing public confidence in the party.

Mr Karlahi assured the new members that the party remains a platform where all voices will be heard, interests protected, and participation encouraged.

He emphasised that the SDP is built on justice, fairness, and progress, ensuring a level playing field for all members.

“The SDP is a party where your voices will be heard, your opinions respected, and your interests protected.

“You have made the right choice by joining or intending to join a political movement that stands for justice, fairness, and progress.

“We assure you that the SDP remains the most democratic and inclusive party in Nigeria, committed to providing a level playing field for all,” he said.

Mr Karlahi dismissed concerns that the increasing membership would displace existing party executives or stakeholders, stressing that the party’s growth only strengthens its collective resolve to build a formidable structure for electoral victory in 2027.

He stated that members had passed a vote of confidence in the leadership, recognising their efforts in promoting democracy and expanding the party’s influence.

Mr Karlahi reaffirmed the party’s support for Umar Ardo, the SDP gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 elections, as the leader of the party in Adamawa.

He noted that Mr Ardo’s experience and leadership would guide the party’s direction, alongside state chairman, Abubakar Yusuf, who remains committed to party growth and unity.

Reiterating the SDP’s position as a true alternative to the ruling APC and PDP, Mr Karlahi cited governance failures in Adamawa and across Nigeria as evidence of the country’s need for a new political direction.

He urged the people of Adamawa and Nigeria to rally behind the SDP, expressing confidence that with their support, the party could build a nation that works for all.
