The African Democratic Congress has inaugurated former Deputy Governor Ahmed Mahmud-Gumel as its coordinator in Jigawa.

Mr Ahmed-Gumel, who served as the deputy to former Governor Sule Lamido between 2007 and 2015, was inaugurated along with other executive committee members of the coalition.

Speaking shortly after the inauguration in Dutse, Mr Ahmed-Gumel said that the coalition aimed to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape and provide an alternative to the APC-led government.

He added that the ADC was committed to building a just and equitable society and called on citizens of the state and other Nigerians to join the party to create a better future for the country.

The former deputy governor further highlighted the party’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria, emphasising the need for unity and collective effort to achieve its goals.

Mr Ahmed-Gumel added that the ADC offered a viable alternative to Nigerians tired of the present APC administration.

“The ADC coalition had been gaining support nationwide, with several political groups and individuals defecting to the party. The party’s leadership has welcomed these coalition developments and it is committed to building a robust and inclusive democratic process,” Mr Ahmed-Gumel said.

Mr Ahmed-Gumel, however, warned party members against being disrespectful and abusing leaders, whether in their party or others, and whether in government or in private.

“This behaviour is not in line with our social and political ideology, nor is it the intention of the coalition movement to defeat the tyrannical administration of the APC-led government nationwide. All that we need from party members is to maintain a high level of decorum and respect in their interactions with others.

“Our youths should continue to pray for and support the coalition movement and we assure you that we are ready to continue doing the needful to bring about positive change in our country,” Mr Ahmed-Gumel said.

He expressed the hope that with the support of the people, the ADC coalition would be able to achieve its goals and provide a better future for Nigerians.
