The African Democratic Congress has accused the All Progressives Congress of sponsoring violence in Osun ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

“Our concern is whether the election in Osun will be free and fair. What is playing out in Osun today is a do-or-die affair for the ruling party,” ADC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated in an ARISE TV interview on Wednesday.

Mr Abdullahi, who expressed confidence that the ADC will win if the poll is free and fair, further condemned what it described as militarisation of the political space in the state.

“Because if the election is free and fair, ADC will win. There seems to be militarisation of the Osun political space in a way I have not seen in my entire adult life.

“If you go to Osun state, you will think that part of the country is at war. The manner of mobilisation and the kind of vehemence you see from the federal government on what is about to unfold in Osun is scary,” the politician added.

Mr Abdullahi excoriated Senator Francis Fadahunsi for inciting people to violence, alleging planned arrest and intimidation of ADC chieftains in the state.

“We spoke about Senator Fadahunsi and the ridiculous explanation he gave about the statement. He clearly told APC supporters to kill opposition. The APC is denying the people the opportunity to choose (their leader).

“I received intel that they’re planning to arrest Rauf Aregbesola before this Saturday’s election. Who does that? It appears that they are proving a point,” the ADC spokesman explained.

Meanwhile, the APC denied sponsoring violence in Osun ahead of the poll and demanded arrest and prosecution of perpetrators.

“We at the APC totally condemn the violence in Osun in the lead-up to this election, and we hope that those responsible for maintaining law and order will arrest people participating in it.

“We don’t encourage it as a party. The election must be conducted in an atmosphere where people can vote without looking over their backs,” the party’s spokesperson Felix Morka said on Wednesday.
