Governor Monday Okpebholo has alleged that the widespread killings and kidnappings are being sponsored by the opposition to smear and distract President Bola Tinubu’s government.

Mr Okpebholo made the allegation during the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress campaign for local government council elections in Edo South senatorial district on Monday.

“They have failed. Have they not failed? Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern. So let them give us peace so that we can rule well,” the governor said. “There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition.”

Mr Okpebholo’s statement came amid escalating killings and kidnappings across the country.

On Tuesday, the president of the Senate, Godwill Akpabio, claimed that mass abductions and widespread killings were being sponsored to undermine Mr Tinubu’s achievements.
