Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesman for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says the party will field competent candidates for the 2027 general elections despite the ongoing crisis. 

Mr Abdullahi, in a statement on Saturday, said, “We have taken note of recent suggestions that the ADC will not produce candidates in the 2027 elections. We find such claims to be entirely unfounded, mischievous, and designed to create confusion where none exists. They have no basis in law, in fact, or in the reality of our preparations as a political party.”

Mr Abdullahi’s statement came amid the leadership tussle rocking the ADC, fueling insinuations that the party might lose in court and miss the chance to contest the 2027 elections.

He insisted the party is committed to producing competent and credible candidates who will rescue Nigeria from the failure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and prevent the dangerous slide toward a one-party state.

He added, “The ADC wishes to state, clearly and unequivocally, that we remain focused on our mission to rescue Nigeria from the failure of the APC-led government and to prevent the dangerous slide toward a one-party state.

“The ADC will present candidates in the 2027 general elections. Not just candidates, but credible, competent, and nationally acceptable candidates who are capable of leading this country out of its current crisis.”

Mr Abdullahi further dismissed any legal impediment to the party’s participation in 2027, insisting the assertions were meant to cause distractions in the party.

“We remain a law-abiding political party, fully compliant with the constitution and the electoral act. There is no legal impediment to our participation in the 2027 elections, and any suggestion to the contrary is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and dampen the growing momentum around our party,” he added. 

Meanwhile, the Anambra chapter of the Kwakwansiya Movement announced the defection of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Peoples Gazette learnt on Saturday that Mr Kwankwaso’s move to the NDC was based on an agreement with former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, for both men to join the party and run on a joint presidential ticket in the 2027 general elections.
