Adefarati, ex-Ondo governor’s son, wins Rep election

Ibukun Emmanuel, the INEC’s Returning Officer for the National Assembly election in Ondo state, announced Mr Adefarati as the winner of the weekend election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adegboyega Adefarati, winner of the House of Representatives election for Akoko South West and Akoko South East federal constituency in Ondo state.

Mr Adefarati, who is the son of the erstwhile governor of the state, the late Adebayo Adefarati, polled 25,872 votes to beat his closest rival, Gbenga Kolawole of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the election exercise.

Mr Kolawole scored 18,403 votes.

Ibukun Emmanuel, the INEC’s Returning Officer for the National Assembly election in Ondo state, announced Mr Adefarati as the winner of the weekend election.

Mr Emmanuel, who declared the results on Sunday, revealed that a total of 50,940 voters were accredited for the poll.

Mr Adefarati is the immediate past Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Ondo until his emergence as the candidate of the APC for the Akoko South West and Akoko South East federal constituency seat.

The late Adefarati was the governor of Ondo from 1999 to 2003. He died on March 29, 2007, at the age of 76.
