Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has issued a statement lamenting the spate of “unprovoked attacks on its vessels and operations” while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, stating that 15 of its oil tankers have been targeted by missiles and drones since the war began.

The Strait of Hormuz has been a critical bargaining chip for Iran in its negotiation with the U.S., which also mounted a naval blockade to halt Iranian-approved oil tankers from passing through.

ADNOC confirmed that a crew member was killed in an attack earlier this week that struck three of its vessels and left 20 others injured.

“Since the beginning of the conflict, 15 of our vessels have been attacked by missiles and drones while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, including three vessels this week alone.,” the satement issuedbon Friday said. “Tragically, these attacks have resulted in one fatality and 20 injuries to crew members.”

ADNOC said it was working with relevant authorities and taking measures to safeguard people, assets and operations while meeting customer’ needs.

“Freedom of navigation and the safe, uninterrupted passage of commercial ⁠shipping through international waterways must be respected and protected without threat, harassment or attack,” the company added.
