An Afghan woman who went into labour in a U.S. evacuation flight gave birth as the flight touched ground on Sunday.

The U.S. Air Mobility Command disclosed this via its official  Twitter handle on Sunday.

“During a flight from an Intermediate Staging Base in the Middle East, the mother went into labour and began having complications.

“Upon landing, Airmen from the 86th MDG came aboard and delivered the child in the cargo bay of the aircraft.

The baby girl and mother were transported to a nearby medical facility and are in good condition,” U.S. Air Mobility Command said.

Since Afghanistan fell to the Taliban last week Sunday, countries have commenced evacuation of their citizens from Afghanistan.

Some Afghan citizens of support to foreign governments have also been airlifted out of their countries.

Al Jazeera reported that about 28,000 persons have been evacuated from Afghanistan since Taliban took over, forcing President Ashraf Ghani to flee the country.
