The State Security Service (SSS) has released Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, from custody.

Mr Bawa, who was suspended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on June 14, was released on Wednesday night after the SSS had Illegally detained him for over 133 days in their custody without charging him to court.

A video that circulated on social media on Wednesday night captured well-wishers celebrating with him.

His release came hours after the former EFCC boss sued the SSS for his continued detention without trial since June 14, 2023.

Mr Bawa filed a lawsuit at the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, praying for the court to declare his detention without trial illegal and to order his immediate release.
