AG orders probe into electricity cables theft in Ondo LG

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Olukayode Ajulo, has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged vandalism and theft of cable jumpers from an electricity installation at Omotoso in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.
Mr Ajulo, in a statement on Thursday, described the October 6 incident as disturbing.
He said any unauthorised interference with state-regulated electricity infrastructure could pose a threat to the state’s energy security and economic development.
He said his office received a brief from the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OSERC) on the alleged deliberate dismantling and removal of essential components from electricity installation operating under its licence.
The attorney-general directed security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and establish the identity of those involved, the authority under which the equipment was removed and its present location.
He also directed that the investigation should determine whether the circumstances surrounding the incident amounted to sabotage or any other criminal offence under the Electricity Act 2023 and the Ondo State Electric Power Sector Law 2020.
Mr Ajulo warned that the state government will not tolerate actions capable of undermining its regulatory authority or damaging critical electricity infrastructure serving the people.
He said anyone found to have participated in or authorised the alleged act would face the full weight of the law.
The attorney-general assured residents that the state government remained committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting critical state assets.
He said the security of electricity infrastructure remained a priority of the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
