The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency says the gas pipeline fire that occurred along Agege Motor Road, Ile Zik inward Agege, has been extinguished, with no casualties recorded.

Spokesman for LASEMA, Olawale Afolabi, confirmed the development on Monday in Lagos.

Mr Afolabi said the explosion involved a gas pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company.

He said the LASEMA Eagle Response Team arrived at the scene at about 3:13 a.m. following distress calls received through the 767 and 112 emergency toll-free lines.

According to him, responders arrived to find the gas pipeline engulfed in flames, and the cause of the incident is still under investigation.

Mr Afolabi said no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded, attributing the outcome to the swift evacuation of residents and the immediate establishment of safety perimeters around the affected area.

He said a combined emergency response involving the LASEMA Response Team, LASEMA Response Unit firefighters and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully contained and extinguished the inferno.

“The gas pipeline valve was shut, while the inferno was successfully extinguished through the combined efforts of the LRT, LRU firefighters and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service,” he said.

Afolabi added that the operation had been successfully concluded and that all emergency responders had returned to base safely.

He said the permanent secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, assured residents that the situation was under control and that emergency response protocols were fully activated to safeguard lives and property.

Mr Oke-Osanyintolu said the Lagos government was working closely with NNPC to ensure that the affected pipeline was safely isolated and subjected to integrity checks before being reactivated.
