The Africa Green Economy and Sustainability Institute (AGESI), in partnership with Natural Eco Capital, has announced the formal acceptance and endorsement of the Catchment Resilience Engineering Certification (CREC™) by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ibeju‑Lekki branch.

AGESI announced the collaboration in a statement on Wednesday, following the NSE Ibeju-Lekki branch’s confirmation of its full commitment to collaborate with the institute and Natural Eco Capital in delivering the CREC™ programme — a technically rigorous, action‑oriented professional‑development initiative designed to strengthen flood‑resilience engineering across Lagos.

The collaboration builds on the keynote delivered by Eugene Itua, AGESI’s executive director and CEO of Natural Eco Capital, at the 2026 Ms Sade Balogun Public Lecture, where he presented a “comprehensive diagnosis” of Lagos’ worsening flood challenges and the urgent need for catchment‑scale engineering solutions.

Mr Itua stated, “We are delighted to receive NSE Ibeju‑Lekki’s formal acceptance of the CREC™ programme. This collaboration marks a major step toward equipping engineers with the tools needed to design resilient catchments and protect communities across Lagos.”

The CREC™ Masterclass, “powered by the FIPRE™ decision discipline”, is a three‑day intensive training designed to equip engineers, planners, drainage officers, developers, emergency managers, and community leaders with practical tools to diagnose compound flood pressures, apply source‑pathway‑receptor engineering, conduct FIPRE™ appraisal and option comparison, among others.

It added, “Participants will graduate with a tested catchment‑resilience portfolio, including a redesign project, FIPRE™ evaluation, governance workflow, community adaptation plan, and investment‑ready concept note.

In its acceptance letter, the NSE Ibeju‑Lekki branch confirmed its full endorsement of the CREC™ programme, immediate constitution of a liaison and implementation team, nomination of representatives for programme governance and certification, activation of secretariat machinery for logistics, communication, and professional‑development alignment and readiness to support the successful rollout of the first CREC™ cohort.

Olufemi Dare, NSE Ibeju‑Lekki branch’s chairman, noted that the CREC™ programme “aligns strongly with our mandate to strengthen engineering practice and enhance member competence”.
