The Israeli military said early Thursday that it carried out a large wave of air strikes targeting dozens of positions belonging to the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah across Lebanon.

According to the military, the air force struck 10 targets in the Dahiyeh suburbs of Beirut within about 30 minutes.

The targets included a Hezbollah intelligence headquarters, the command centre of the elite Radwan unit, and other command posts.

Israeli forces also struck several rocket launchers and targeted dozens of Hezbollah fighters who were preparing attacks against Israel, the statement said.

Guided by Israeli ground troops, the air force carried out additional strikes on more than 20 targets in other parts of Lebanon.

The attacks followed renewed rocket fire from Hezbollah into northern Israel.

The group resumed launches roughly a week and a half ago after a pause, saying the move was in response to the killing of Ali Khamenei.

Since the renewed exchanges, Israel has expanded its strikes on targets in Lebanon.

According to official figures from Beirut, the escalation has displaced nearly 760,000 people across the country.
