Ondo Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has promised to make infrastructural development, particularly the construction of roads, a top priority in Akure, the state capital, if elected to retain the governor seat.

Mr Aiyedatiwa made the promise at the palace of the Deji of Akure, Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, on Friday, as he starts his campaign across the 18 local government areas.

The governor, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the November 16 governorship poll, was at the palace to seek the Akure monarch’s blessing.

Accompanied by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, and other top APC members to the palace, Mr Aiyedatiwa said his administration was ready to ensure its beautification to allow the community, been a capital city, to look more attractive to both citizens and visitors.

He promised to restructure the state budget to suit the plans for developing the state capital to attract investors.

“Akure remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. If any development wants to happen in the state for good, it must always start from Akure.

“And we have been doing what you ask from us, and we will continue to do more. We are going to beautify the city and make it look more attractive for our people.

“We will provide solar street lights on our roads. We will also ensure we build public toilets in our markets. We will ensure the roads leading to all these markets are constructed. So, I’m urging our people to move on the election day and vote for us,” he said.

Welcoming the entourage, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo, described Mr Aiyedatiwa as a man with a long pedigree and respect for the traditional rulers and institutions.

While noting that the governor deserved to be supported in realising his dream of retaining the governor’s seat, the traditional ruler pleaded with Mr Aiyedatiwa to sustain his infrastructural projects, especially in road constructions and provisions of street solar lights in Akure.

He also urged the governor to ensure the roads leading to the Oba’s market within the state capital are constructed to ease trade and transactions for market men and women in the city.
