Ajayi scores as Hull City stun Manchester United in EPL opener
Nigerian footballer Semi Ajayi was on target on Saturday as newly promoted Hull City defeated Manchester United in their opening game of the English Premier League.
Returning to the EPL after nine years, Hull delivered a brilliant performance, stunning the Red Devils with a 2-0 victory at the MKM Stadium.
Ajayi opened the scoring for the Tigers in the 17th minute, firing in a shot after a chaotic scramble from a corner kick.
Hull City’s new signing, Nobel Mendy, doubled the lead for the newly promoted side, netting a debut goal just before half-time.
Though United went into the first-half break two goals behind the Tigers with hopes of turning things around in the second half, Hull City held firm to claim all three points.
Despite dominating almost 70 per cent of possession in the second half, United could not pull a goal back before the blast of the final whistle.
