The immediate past governor of Benue, Samuel Ortom, has celebrated the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, on the occasion of his 72nd birthday.

Mr Ortom, in a goodwill message on Saturday signed by  Terver Akase, his media adviser/consultant, and made available to journalists in Makurdi, described Mr Akume as a statesman and a consummate leader.

The former governor said that the SGF’s decades of public service have left an indelible mark on Benue and the nation at large.

He said Mr Akume’s political journey has been defined by vision, discipline, and commitment to the public good.

According to Mr Ortom, Mr Akume has mentored, groomed, and positioned countless people, among them technocrats, politicians, and professionals across diverse fields, many of whom continue to contribute meaningfully to national development.

“Senator Akume has distinguished himself through an exemplary life of public service.

“As a former governor of Benue and a three-time senator who represented the Benue Northwest Senatorial District, minister of the Federal Republic, and now SGF, Senator Akume has demonstrated unparalleled commitment to the welfare of his people and the country as a whole,” he added.

Mr Ortom further stated that Mr Akume has played a pivotal role in stabilising governance and supporting the administration of President Bola Tinubu as it confronts the nation’s current economic challenges.

He prayed to God to grant him many more years of good health, wisdom, happiness, and continued service to the nation.
