Akure: Court remands man for killing motorcyclist

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The Akure Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 30-year-old man, Sola Ayemibo, for robbing and killing a motorcyclist, Olawale Bello.

The police arraigned the defendant, whose address was not given, on two counts of robbery and murder.

The prosecutor, Insp Nelson Akintimehin, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 11, 2023 at about 8:30 p.m. at Adegbemile area in Akure.

Mr Akintimehin alleged that the defendant killed Mr Bello, a commercial motorcyclist, having succeeded in robbing him of his TVS motorcycle.

He said the offences contravened sections 316 and 402 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2016.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in the Olokuta Correctional Centre in Akure, pending the advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The magistrate, Musa Al-Yunus, ordered the remand of the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre in Akure.

He adjourned the case until March 14, for mention.
