Frank Archibong, the Akwa Ibom commissioner of local government and chieftaincy affairs, says the directive for local government transition chairpersons to submit scorecards is in order.

Mr Archibong, who made the statement in Uyo on Wednesday when the transition chairpersons visited him, urged them to comply with the directive.

Governor Umo Eno recently directed the 31 local government council transition chairpersons to submit their scorecards before May 20.

The governor said the directive’s essence was to ensure accountability in service delivery. The commissioner said that as leaders of the third-tier of government, their programmes positively impact the people.

“So as leaders in your respective local government areas, you are expected to live above board,” he said.

He also mentioned that the state government had invested hugely in security to ensure adequate protection of lives and property.

The commissioner for agriculture, Offiong Offor, urged the chairpersons to cultivate farmlands within their domains in accordance with the government’s policy on agriculture.

“The governor’s policy on agriculture is about food sufficiency. We need to key into this initiative. As a ministry, we are ready to support you with input. The overall aim is to ensure massive food production in the state,” she said.
