The Ikot Esenam Community, Oruk Anam, Akwa Ibom, has said the appointment of Joseph Essien as the vice chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Obio Akpa, is a commitment to excellence.

The community made the expression in a statement by the village council chairman, Francis Udoudoh, and the secretary, Dominic Utin.

The community said that President Bola Tinubu’s choice of Mr Essien smacked of willingness to engender creativity, hard work and excellence.

“The appointment is a historic milestone for the community and Akwa Ibom people generally.

“The development has brought renewed hope, pride, and confidence in the future of education in the state,” the statement read in part.

The community stated that Mr Essien’s appointment represented far more than the emergence of a vice chancellor.

“It is the beginning of a new era of educational advancement, innovation, research excellence, and technological development,” the statement noted. 

The community expressed confidence in Mr Essien’s ability to demonstrate experience, administrative competence, and leadership in managing the university.

The Ikot Esenam community also thanked Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno for their support of the growth and development of the university.

It expressed optimism that the institution would grow into a centre of excellence, capable of producing graduates that could
address contemporary challenges.
