Akwa Ibom: Masquerader arrested for allegedly disrupting public peace

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State police command, on Monday, arrested a masquerader for allegedly disrupting public peace.
Spokesperson for the command, Timfon John, in a post on X on Tuesday, said the arrest was in compliance with Governor Umo Eno’s ban on public activities by masqueraders.
Mr Timfon said, “Yesterday, a masquerader was arrested for disrupting public peace. One David was unveiled as the human being inside the Ekpo Masquerade paraphernalia.”
Stating that the suspect will be charged to court, the police spokesperson reminded residents that the ban on public activities of masquerades is still in force and the police are out to enforce it to the fullest.
Mr Eno, at a state function on Sunday, ordered that anyone caught should be arrested and charged to court, explaining that the ban became necessary due to recent attacks on innocent residents by suspected criminals disguised as masquerades in parts of the state.
