Umaru Al-Makura, former governor of Nasarawa state, has hailed the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s local government election in the state.

Mr Al-Makura stated this shortly after casting his vote at Lungun Wambai polling unit, Gayam electoral ward in Lafia Local Government Area.

He described the election as free and fair where the electorate conducted themselves in a civilised manner.

“I am very impressed with the electoral officials, security agencies as well as the electorates.

“I am also happy with all the political parties that had featured candidates in the election because the essence of politics is the periodic opportunity to elect their representatives,” he added.

Similarly, Aliyu Bello, Nasarawa state chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), who cast his vote at Remi Uku polling unit, Gayam ward, said that the election was free, fair and credible.

Mr Bello noted that the exercise was rancour-free as voters and other stakeholders were performing their duties peacefully.

The APC chairman expressed optimism that his party would win the election, given the quality of the candidates presented.

Also, Sagir Ibrahim, Lafia chairmanship candidate of Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) said the election was free, fair and credible and expressed optimism of winning his election.
